Ultrasonography

Ultrasonography is an imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to view a woman’s bladder, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and cervix. Ultrasound is most commonly used in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the following two purposes: to confirm and monitor pregnancy and to detect conditions such as ovarian cysts, abnormal uterine bleeding, and uterine fibroids. Ultrasound is commonly used to confirm pregnancy, determine the baby’s sex, size, and position, and calculate the date of birth. Another common use of ultrasounds is to diagnose gynecological diseases, particularly of the reproductive system. Abnormal uterine bleeding, cysts, tumors, fibroids, and pelvic pain can be diagnosed and evaluated with ultrasound. In addition, ultrasound is used to monitor and measure egg development in IVF treatment. Ultrasound can be performed using transabdominal or transvaginal methods.
